Ask if the Work is Guaranteed
Most collision and repair centres are happy to offer a guarantee on their work, but some are less comprehensive than others and may not cover such services as the paint job. Be sure to ask for a copy of the guarantee before work begins and be sure to ask for clarification of any information you do not understand.
Choose a Qualified Technician
It is important to choose a repair facility whose technicians are experienced with and knowledgeable about the repair services you require. Look for certifications and diplomas that document training and certification, membership in professional trade associations, or membership with the Better Business Bureau. All of these are indications of a shop that stays current with the latest repair procedures and equipment.
They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but an inspection of the collision or repair shop prior to choosing a facility can allow you to prevent problems before they occur. For example, are the technicians properly trained and certified to perform the services you need? Do they have the specialized equipment and industry knowledge to complete the necessary repairs? Does this shop have a good reputation in the area with past
customers? Is the shop clean and uncluttered? Are the employees courteous and respectful? If you feel comfortable with the shop and the people working there, it is a good bet that you will be satisfied with their work, as well.
Inspect All Completed Repairs before Leaving
Do not sign off on repairs or leave the facility until you have checked all repaired areas of the vehicle. Examine your vehicle from a distance and again close up and check the appearance of paint for colour match, texture and overspray. Take it for a test drive if mechanical repairs have been made. Ensure that employees kept the vehicle clean while it was on their property. If you are not satisfied with any aspect of the repair, be sure to mention your concerns right away.

Your Car – Your Choice
If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, it is important that you are aware of your rights when making decisions about where and by whom you would like to have your vehicle repaired. You, not your insurance company have the right to choose a collision or refinish centre for repairs.
Obtaining an Estimate
It is a common belief that a consumer must obtain more than 1 estimate when selecting a repair facility after a motor vehicle accident. This is not true. The law states that you can choose any facility that you feel comfortable with. If your provider requires an insurance adjuster to inspect the damage, this can be easily accomplished at a drive-in claims centre or at the shop you have chosen to make repairs.
Always Notify Your Insurance Provider
Once you have decided on a repair facility, be sure to contact your insurance provider or agent before authorizing any repairs. If you prefer, the repair facility you have selected can make the call. Tell your agent where your vehicle is located so that it can be examined by an insurance adjuster, if necessary.
